Q: WHY IS THE TENBOX MORE EXPENSIVE THAN COMPUTER ESATA BOXES?
A: The best, most silent and most efficient HDDs, cooling fans and controller card were used in the TenBox. The enclosure is US made of thick aluminum. Some pieces of hardware were specially designed for this product. Even the fasteners, grommets, switches used are the best. All of these are expensive, and the result is a strong, reliable box to which you will trust your precious DirecTV recordings, and which is silent enough to be used in a bedroom. Computer storage boxes for data backup were not designed for continuous operation as required by DirecTV DVR.
Q: DOES THE TENBOX WORK WITH THE NEW HR21?
A: Yes.
Q: HOW DOES THE TENBOX INTERFACE WITH THE HR20/21?
A: The TenBox connects to the the HR20/21 with an eSATA cable. Once the TenBox is connected, it works just like the HR20/21 did before, but with much more recording capacity.
Q: CAN I STILL WATCH PROGRAMS RECORDED IN THE HR20/21 INTERNAL DRIVE?
A: Yes. Once the TenBox is connected, the HR20/21 will no longer "see" programs recorded before the TenBox, but they are not lost and can be accessed by restarting the HR20/21 turning the TenBox off. To later return to programs on the TenBox, restart the HR20/21 with the TenBox on.
Q: CAN I EXTRACT PROGRAMS RECORDED ON THE TENBOX TO A COMPUTER?
A: No. The TenBox works just like the HR20/21 internal HDD, and it is not allowed to share programs or content. Programs stored on the TenBox have to be viewed with the same HR20/21
Q: DOES DIRECTV CHARGE A FEE FOR USING THE TENBOX?
A: No.
